Meet Tuesday 6/24 Away at Durant Trails:

You will need to arrive so that your swimmers are ready to stretch on the pool deck by 5:15, our pool warmup time is 5:30-6. Meet starts at 6 P. More details with specifics for an away meet will be sent closer to Tuesday.

Volunteers needed for 6/24 Meet

Open positions are:

  • Clerk of Course
  • 7-8 Girls kid pusher
  • Runner
  • Timers- need at least 3
  • Order of Finish Judge
  • Stroke and Turn Judge

****Stroke and Turn Judge- we need someone to volunteer for this position next week. Matt Cook has been our S&T Judge for many years and this year he is taking a well deserved vacation. He will not be available next week and we cannot proceed with the meet unless someone steps up. It can be a year round parent, an ex-swimmer or someone with no knowledge.  You will need to take an online class (paid for by the team and training hours count towards your volunteer hours for the pool.) I believe it is just a couple hours long at most. Please contact me ASAP if you are willing to step up and take on this position next week.

Registration Fees:

Thank you to those who have paid. If you have not, please drop off payment at practice or place in my folder in the ribbon box.

Ribbons from last week:

All ribbons are in the ribbon box in the kitche.

Team Picture:

Team picture will be taken Monday 6/23. Please wear Marlins shirts. Pic will be taken at 5:15. If you do not have a Marlins shirt I have a box of ones from my kids throughout the years that I can lend out.

Saving Grace Fundraiser:

We will be collecting items to donate to Saving Grace Animals for Adoption. Collection will take place during our Awards Ceremony, or another time that you rearrange with me. Full details to come at a later date, just wanted to make you aware we were planning it.

End of Season Awards Banquet:

Will be held at the pool Wednesday 7/16 (or Thursday 7/17 if there is any postponement of 7/16 meet.) It will be a Potluck with cake provided. Bring your own drinks. Will start at 6 with dinner then awards. If you have any pictures from the season please forward to me. If someone would like to help me by ordering and picking up with team cake please let me know.

Lessons:

Coaches Sam, Jessie and Andrew are available for swim lessons.  If you are interested, or know anyone who is, please contact Coach Sam at 919-455-4975. She will assign a coach to the lesson based on swimmer skill level and scheduling availability. Evenings after practice or weekends are the nest time but we can work around your schedule. Cost for members is $20 for individual 30 minute lesson and $30 for group 30 minute lesson. If you have any questions you can also contact me at 919-345-9359.

Meet Recap from 6/17 meet against Hedingham

Our mighty Marlins challenged a team much larger than ourselves. Hedingham has 80 swimmers while we had 42. (In fact, they had 42 swimmers under age 8- that was our entire team!)  We were not able to fill out all relay teams which makes a huge difference. Still, if you go by points per swimmer our swimmers earned more points :) We also had many personal bests. It was a great meet where once again our Marlins showcased their sportsmanship which is something that we place a high priority on- win or lose.

Double Winner: Paul Brin

Triple Winners: Blair Wilson, Claire Curtis and Carpenter Keigan

Records:

  • Pool and Team Record- Andrew Cook Boys 15-18 50 Back
  • Team Record- Andrew Cook Boys 15-18 50 Fly

Shoutouts: All of our volunteers deserve a huge thank you as we could not do this without your help, but this week I would like to specifically call out a few of our volunteers who have taken on vital roles for our meets. Heather Huffine has graciously stepped up to be our Starter again this year, in my opinion the most vital position at a home meet. I thank her for running a very efficient meet and getting us home as early as possible.

  • Matt Fontaine is once again our Announcer. For those of you who are not aware, Matt's kids aged out of swim team many years ago, but each year he shows up to announce for us! We greatly appreciate the time he still dedicates to our team
  • Kara Gustafsson- also had swimmers who aged out but came down to relieve Matt at our last meet. We try to create a family environment on this team and the fact that we have parents showing up to see neighborhood kids when theirs do not swim anymore shows that we really are a family.
  • Alej Kiegan- thank you for stepping up for Order of Finish- another vital position that makes my life as Meet Admin much easier!
  • And of course the Garkalns for Concessions and Bethany White for Munchin Marlins.

Relay Swim ups: Thank you to the following swimmers who helped fill out relay teams by swimming up:

  • Jackie Brin (11-12 Girls Medley and Free Relays),
  • Dillon Wilson (15-18 Boys Medley and Free Relays)
  • Jake Huffine (15-18 Boys Medley and Free Relays)
  • Paul Brin (7-8 Boys Medley and Free Relays)
  • Carpenter Keigan (15-18 Boys Free Relay)
  • Camden Sant'Agata (Girls 15-18 Free Relay)
  • May Charlotte Wilson (Girls 15-18 Medley Relay
  • And Ruby Parrish for joining the Girls 7-8 Free Relay

Thats a whole lot of swim ups!!

Action Items:

Prior to Sunday 6/22 at 6 PM

  • Declare your swimmers
  • RSVP for Munchin Marlins
  • Volunteer for open meet positions
  • Let me know if you are willing to train for Stroke and Turn Judge.

As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. And again, thank you all for everything you do for our team!

GO MARLINS!
