- Ribbons
- T Shirts
- Meet Recap
- North Raleigh Championship meet 7/16
Munchin Marlins:
There will be no Munchin Marlins tonight- we will resume next week. The signup will be posted by the end of the week.
Meet Wednesday July 5 @ Home:
I have just received the last of the declarations for this week. Thank you so very much to the 29 swimmers who are signed up to swim, we appreciate you! I am going to be honest- the score will probably be largely not in our favor as they have 87 swimmers (only 30% of their team is missing.) Unfortunately, the league does not take a break during this holiday week so it is what it is. I would like to make it the most enjoyable experience possible for those who are swimming so if anyone has any ideas on how to do that please contact me.
Volunteers needed for 7/5 Meet
Most volunteer positions are still open except Meet Admin, TSA, Stroke and Turn, Concessions and Kids Pushers. If we do not have enough volunteers we will be forced to forfeit as we are the hosts this week.
Open positions are:
- Announcer
- Starter
- Clerk of Course
- Floater/Assistant Clerk
- Timers- need 3 and a Head Timer
- Order of Finish Judge
- Runner
- Ribbon Delivery on Deck
Ribbons from last week:
Ribbons are in your family folders in the kitchen
T Shirts
Order has been placed and hopefully will be picked up later this week. Thank you Heather Huffine for your help.
Meet Recap
Thirty Eight (yes, 38) Marlins headed out to Hasentree last week to swim against a team of 120 swimmers. We had a fantastic meet! We had so many successful swims, both individually and in relays. To come within 44 points when their team was 300% larger than ours was incredible. We were speaking to a Year Round Head Coach and when he found out how close we came he was amazed that we were able to score that many points.
While we did not win the meet, the Marlins coaches and I were very proud of our team. We definitely won when it comes to Sportsmanship. I heard multiple people from the other team comment on how we all handled ourselves in and out of the pool. Shout out of the night goes to the main event swimmers who repeatedly got right back in the pool to swim with a lone heat swimmer, as our team does not let anyone swim alone. Special Spotlight goes to Jake Huffine who hopped back in to swim with a Hasentree Swimmer so that she would not be alone. (mind you Jake did not know this girl from school, just did what comes naturally when you know how important Sportsmanship is.)
I often harp on Sportsmanship- I realize that for the majority of our swimmers swimming is not their chosen sport. It is something that they do in the summer, mostly as a social activity. However, I am proud that the values our team exemplifies are noticed, are applauded by other teams and are an example of how teams should act. Summer swim offers an excellent opportunity to enhance values- cheering on teammates, performing outside of one’s comfort zone, striving for individual success in a team environment, showing respect for all athletes by staying in the water and never letting a teammate complete alone, encouraging others of all abilities… all of these values translate into successful qualities they carry into their chosen sports. I have heard from all 3 opponents this year that our team is a pleasure to swim against- not due to scores but because watching how we treat others is a reminder of what summer swim is all about.
Final Score- Hasentree 268, Manchester 224
Double Winners: Claire Curtis, Elizabeth Davis, Blair Wilson
Triple Winners: Mason Curtis, Gavin Ivory, Colin Harvey
Relay Swim Ups: Thank you to the following swimmers who swam up in a relay: Natalie H Jones (moved to 11-12 Girls), Scott Richardson and Cam Poplak (moved to 13-14 Boys winning relay) and Claire Curtis (moved to anchor girls winning 15-18 relays.)
Thank you again to all those who swam and volunteered.
