Meet tomorrow 6/20 at NRSC

HI All,

Please monitor your email and texts tomorrow as there may be updates due to the weather situation. Please also take the time to read this email in its entirety- if you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Meet Details:

Welcome to North Raleigh Swim Club, home of the Gators!

  • Address: 8105 Haymarket Lane, Raleigh, 27615. We are located on the corner of Haymarket and Falls of the Neuse Rd, which can be very busy in the afternoon. Please allow time for traffic if you’ll be using Falls to get to NRSC.
  • Warm-ups: Visitor warm-ups begin at 5:30, meet begins at 6pm
  • Parking: We reserve our parking lot for our visitors, additional parking is on the street. Parking is prohibited within 15 feet of a fire hydrant and, as a courtesy, we encourage you to park several feet from driveways, avoid blocking mailboxes, and park near the curb to allow room for cars to easily pass. Avoid parking on Barley Place northeast of Haymarket if at all possible.
  • Seating: Visitor area is to the left of the pool near the volleyball court, and in the afternoon, is the shady side of the pool. Seating is limited, so please bring folding chairs. Both the volleyball court and playground will be closed during the meet.
  • Concessions: We will have snacks, chips, candy, and drinks for sale. We will also offer meals with pizza or chicken. Please bring cash for the concession stand. Outside food, drinks, and coolers ARE permitted, but alcohol, glass bottles and glass containers of any kind are NOT allowed.
  • Manchester- please arrive no later that 5:15 ready to stretch

    Volunteers needed:

We are once again going to make an attempt to have the meet run smoothly by using their timing system, which is stopwatches with times handwritten on timing sheets. Swimmingly could be used for us (not them as all of their swimmers would be “Unknown”) and I could transfer times from Swimmingly, but as they pointed out that would technically put us at a disadvantage. The TSA League has deemed all finishes are by time, not place judges. If we used Swimmingly all of our timers would start automatically by a starter, their timers each start a stopwatch. As silly as it may sound, in a close race the slower reaction time of their timers could give their swimmers a better time. So, long story short- I agreed to use their system…

Downside to all of this is that we are going to have 12 timers- 2 per lane, one from each team. The times will be averaged by the meet software. I will need 6 timers instead of the 4 that I had listed. I have updated the job sign up which was easy to do since we had none signed up.

Summary- need 6 timers and 1 order of finish judge.

    Weather and Delays:

Per the TSA President’s email today:

    Hello fellow TSA Reps,

I understand the weather forecast is not good for this week. Please remember that rain delays may not be called until both teams arrive on deck for your scheduled meets. The county is large and weather is different at each location. So, do your best to get as many events completed as safely possible. Please review the rules for postponement.

    Good luck!
    Tracey

I am attaching the full policy at the end of this email for those of you who are new to weather delays.

    Lineup- Changes and Availability

We have already completed the lineup with the declarations received as of last night- if you need to change your declaration please let Coach Sam 919-455-4975 or me 919-345-9359 know immediately. We realize it may not be ideal to sit in the rain or wet pool area, but we need every swimmer we can get this week. We have many declared as not attending, so if you can swim please do! We need you!

In the event of a postponement I will need to know all of your availability for Wednesday- swimmers and volunteers. I will gather that info at the meet probably.

    Summary:

Meet will be held as planned. Please make sure swimmers bring extra towels, sweatpants, shoes to keep feet warm, sweatshirts, etc. Also, bring cash for concessions or healthy snacks/dinner for your family. And folding chairs and umbrellas/rain gear :(

I will update you if anything changes between now and arrival at the NRSC pool at 5 PM tomorrow

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions/concerns.

    Thank you,

    Jackie

TSA Rule Book pertaining to Weather delays:

102.7 Change of Program and Postponement

.1 Meets shall be held as scheduled. Failure to do so shall result in forfeiture by the team unable to fulfill its obligation to complete an official meet. The final score of a forfeiture shall be announced and posted as 1-0.

.2 Meets will start at 6:00 p.m. on their scheduled evening. The inclement weather date will be the next day that is not a legal holiday, starting at 6:00 p.m.

.3 The start of a meet may not be delayed by more than 30 minutes for reasons other than inclement weather. Delays within a meet, other than weather related, that do not have a bearing on the completion of scheduled races, must not last longer than 10 minutes.

.4 It is the pool manager's responsibility to determine if the pool should be closed due to inclement weather. If the pool can be opened safely, the meet will be swum. Meets may be held in the rain, but not when there is thunder or lightning. Unless the host pool has a written policy that is more stringent, swimmers will not be allowed in the water for a minimum of 30 minutes after the last flash of lightning or clap of thunder. All meet participants, officials and spectators are encouraged to clear the pool, decks, pavilions and other non-substantial structures until the storm threat is gone.

.5 Meet status is the responsibility of the TSA representatives. Pool managers must not communicate the status of a meet without instruction from the TSA representatives.

.6 A meet may not be delayed or interrupted for more than 60 minutes due to inclement weather. If the meet is interrupted more than once during an evening because of inclement weather, the meet will be stopped.

.7 If a meet is stopped due to the weather, it will be declared over, if on the originally scheduled evening, all breaststroke events have been completed, or if on the inclement weather day, all backstroke events have been completed. The winner is determined by the points accumulated at the end of the last completed stroke (all ages and all genders). If all breaststroke events have not been completed on the meet’s originally scheduled day, the meet will resume on the inclement weather day (as defined in 102.7.2, above) with the event that was to be swum when the meet was halted. Unless both TSA representatives agree to the contrary prior to the start of the meet, if all backstroke events have not been completed on the inclement weather day, the meet shall be declared a tie and will not be rescheduled. Times and order of finish for swimmers who competed in any events following the last completed stroke will apply toward pool, team, and individual recognition (including triple winner recognition).

.8 These standards must be followed unless both TSA representatives mutually and equally agree either to extend the weather postponement or to amend the inclement weather date and time
