Swim Team Update
Hi Marlins!
Thank you to everyone for being so patient this season. The pool opening late and the cold weather has impacted everyone and we appreciate so many swimmers still coming to practice.
A few reminders this week:
Time trials will be held next Tuesday during practice. I will be updating the job sign up so that a few timers can volunteer for each practice session.
Swim team suits should be delivered soon. If you want one and have not placed your order yet there is still time to call All American Swim. Details are on our website.
Sponsors needed- we have received some sponsorships but would love to have more. If you know of any business that would be willing to sponsor our team please reach out to Kristen Ivory or me. The deadline is this Friday. If you have obtained a sponsorship, please send me a logo for the company so that I can add it to our website and shirts. Thank you to all those who have helped obtain sponsorships!
Volunteers needed- we have an immediate need for someone for the following positions:
Munchin Marlins Coordinator. If we do not have a Coordinator, I think we will need to go back to ordering food to be delivered (like pizza.) There are 5 weeks of Munchin Marlins this year- we will not have one for our meet that is on Wednesday 7/5.
Starter- Sadly, our long-standing Starter will not be returning, but has offered to help train a new person. If you are interested in helping, please let me know ASAP. This position is vital to our 3 home meets- we cannot hold a meet without this function.
T Shirts- order will be placed soon. We are still waiting for a quote. I will let everyone know when you can place and pay for your shirts online on our website.
Volunteer Shoutouts- Thank you to Connie Garkalns for updating our Marlins Bulletin Board underneath the overhang. She did a fantastic job! Please stop by to see all the great pictures from last season. Thank you also to Kristen Ivory for working hard to obtain Sponsors this year! This is not a fun task and her efforts are appreciated.
Recruiting- Our team is very small this year- we have had many families move from the neighborhood or decide not to rejoin MSRC this year. Additionally, many of our older swimmers have aged out, are working, or are committed to other sports and did not return. In order to be competitive at our meets we need a full roster for relays- if you know of anyone that may be interested in swim team, please talk with them about joining. They can try out a few practices if they want. Our team needs as many swimmers as we can get!
Practice time- 4-5 PM. This session has been very lightly attended. I am requesting feedback from families with 11-18 year old swimmers to determine if there are any changes that can be made to make this the most enjoyable and positive experience for all. Is this time too early? Was it just too cold? Are other sports finishing up? Are they just not coming to practice and will attend meets? Any input would be very helpful!!
As always please reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, suggestions. I can be found at most practices after 5 PM or you can email/text me.
Looking forward to a sunny warmer week ahead!
Thank you!
