Marlins Update week 5- ACTION NEEDED

Hi All,

I am very excited for the first meet next week, along with the first Munchin Marlins of the season. This update has alot of info, please take the time to read it all and contact me with any questions.

  • Munchin Marlins
  • Declare your swimmers
  • Open Volunteer Positions
  • T- Shirt orders
  • Coach Update- practice change for next week
  • Swim Cap update
  • Swimmers numbers
  • Practice schedule changes on Monday- morning practices added
  • Harrington Grove information for meet

Munchin Marlins:

The sign up to bring items is on the website- it is listed as a job signup under the Meets and Events/sign up calendar tab. We will be having Papa John's pizza (cheese and pepperoni) along with salad, fruit and dessert. Drinks will not be provided, but your swimmers should have their water bottles with them for practice. All items should be at the pool no later than 4:45 PM (you can drop them off earlier and leave in the kitchen.)

There will be a $2 charge per swimmer if your child would like pizza. Please venmo Jennifer Curtis (@Jennifer-Curtis-23) with your payment. In order to have an accurate count for the pizza ordering please make sure you RSVP by Sunday night at 6 PM. Thank you again to Jennifer and Ashley!

Declare your swimmer for this Tuesday's meet

Declarations are due by 6 PM on Sunday night for the following Tuesday meet. I have sent a separate email to those who are not declared for the meet on 6/14 at Harrington Grove. If you do not declare as swimming or not attending by 6 PM on Sunday your swimmers will not be entered into the lineup per TSA standards. Any change you need to make after that time should be reported immediately to Coach Sam (919-455-4975) and me (919-345-9359) as there are updates we need to make in the meet software.

Open Volunteer Positions:

Thank you to all who have signed up to volunteer. Currently, we have not filled the following positions for our first meet:

  • 2nd Clerk of Course
  • 4th Place Judge
  • 2nd Half Timer
  • Back- up Timer

If you have any questions about what these positions entail please let me know. They are all able to be performed by inexperienced volunteers- no one would be left alone- each has at least one other person who will also be filling the same role who can assist with training.

T-shirts:

We will be ordering Manchester Marlins T-shirts. They will be light blue Dry Fit shirts with our logo on the front and our sponsors logos on the back. Cost is $15 per shirt. I have added a sign up under the Meets and Events/Signup Calendar tab on the team website for anyone who would like to place an order. One limitation of this website is that we currently cannot assign quantities (example- you want (2) Adult Medium shirts. System only lets you sign up for (1). The workaround for that is to have the other registered parent for your family enter the 2nd quantity or contact me and I can edit to get the correct sizes and quantities for your family. We apologize for the very quick deadline on this- we need all orders by Sunday night at 6 PM. There is a 2 week turnaround time so the shirts would be here for the last 4 meets. If you would like to order, please sign up on the website and you venmo Heather Huffine your payment @Heather-Huffine is her venmo. If you do not have venmo please contact her for an alternate payment method. Thanks for your help Heather!

Coach Sam's Update:

Thank you to all who attended time trials. Also, a huge thank you to all of the older swimmers who stayed and helped with the 6 and Unders! We could not do this without you.

Coach Marie and Coach David will be filling in for me during the 2nd and 3rd practice groups on Monday since I will be participating in the Millbrook graduation that evening. I have asked that they work on diving and relay starts/finishes. Congratulations to all of our Millbrook Seniors who will be graduating on Monday!

There will be no practice on Friday 6/17.

Swim Cap Update:

Swim Caps have been backordered and will not be delivered until the end of next week. We are asking all returning swimmers to please try to use previous years caps. We do have a small inventory of caps that will be given out on a priority basis- new swimmers first then any recurring swimmer who cannot locate theirs from previous years. You may also use a plain swim cap of your own- no logos and blue or white preferred.

Swimmers Numbers:

We are going to try something a little different this year- we are requesting that you write with a Sharpie your swimmers number on their right arm and left shoulder prior to arriving at the pool for the meet. I have posted a list of swimmers/numbers on the team website under the Meets and Events tab. If your swimmer is not listed they are still not registered in Swimmingly. If you are not able to do this we can still get their numbers written at the meet, it is just much easier and less chaotic when they are not sweaty and wet!

Summer practice hours:

Please note that starting on Monday practice will follow summer hours. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday will remain the same while Tuesday and Friday will have AM practice from 10-11:30. Remember that there will be no Friday practice the first week, though.

Harrington Grove information:

From the Harrington Grove TSA Rep:

We are located at 12201 New Leesville Blvd. We will leave our parking lot open for your team to park in – if the lot becomes full you can park on the sides of New Leesville Blvd. We have asked our parents to park on New Leesville Blvd or walk from home.

As far as concessions, we will have hot dog plates for sale at the pool as well as Pelican’s Snoball’s food truck.

We are planning to print all the ribbon labels from Meet Maestro and put then on the ribbons. We plan to try to get them to your club by Thursday to hand out. Therefore, we will not need you to provide a ribbon writer at the meet.

For new swim parents there is more information on what to expect at a meet, what to bring, info about events, etc. located on our team website under the meets/events tab. Please arrive at Harrington Grove no later than 5 PM so that you can set up and get your swimmers ready. They will stretch at 5:15 and begin pool warm up at 5:30. The meet starts promptly at 6 PM.

Summary of actions needed:
